The first picture is from October of 2013, not long after I sold The Wrath and the Dawn. I went with a writer friend to New Orleans for the annual Vampire Ball … and of course to meet Anne Rice.

The second picture is her response to an email I wrote to her in 2009 when I first embarked on the journey to become a published writer.

Anyone who knows me at all can tell you how much she has shaped my writing. How much she has inspired the way I look at the world around me.

Fashion is an interesting thing for me. I’ve loved it for most of my life, like in a Carrie Bradshaw kind of way. But there is a lot wrong with it. My admiration for it has driven me to wish I were someone else. Someone thinner or taller or blonder. Someone … effortlessly chic.

For me, clothes on a body can be a moving expression of art. And when someone gets it RIGHT—like really right—it’s a marvel. It sticks with me and inspires me in my writing and in my everyday life.

Virgil Abloh was that for me. I could see the expression of what he felt and experienced inside himself in what he created for the world to see outside.

I know his work will continue to inspire for many years to come.

I have a confession to make. I’ve never been as nervous about a book as I’ve been about #TheRighteous. Before this, I’ve only written duologies. I wondered if readers would be willing to follow me for a third book in a series. Would they be okay falling in love with a new heroine?

Would they love Pippa and Arjun as much as they loved Celine and Bastien?

The first reviews for #TheRighteous have been some of the best of my career ❤️ Many of them have moved me to tears. I can’t thank my readers enough for the love and support they’ve continues to give this series, which grows and grows with each passing week in ways I could only have dreamed of 💕

Speaking of dreams … LOOK AT THIS LIST OF AUTHORS. My colleagues. My friends. I am so excited and so lucky to get to chat with them about books and life and food and the next time we all get to hang out IN PERSON soon ❤️
